Lot 21 Early documentation Anthony Mulligan bought Jan 14 1831. Anthony Mulligan first settler; sold to Charles Patrick who died and was the first interred in Crown Cemetery. Fred Walsh 1844; James Smith 1844; Mrs. Smith 1861; 1867 Resident-Charles & Joseph Smith. 1885 James Smith. James Smith, a native of Dumfries, Scotland came to Puslinch in 1832 and purchased the Patrick farm, lot 21, con 7. He married Janet Patrick. Mr. Smith was Clerk of the court of Requests and an elder in the first Presbyterian church in Guelph. His family consisted of 6 sons, Chas, John, Joseph, James, Adam and Walter, and 2 daughters. His son, Joseph, who still owns the homestead as well as the farms of John McKenzie and George Shatz, is one of Puslinch's most progressive farmers, always prominent among the promoters of the best interests of the community, and a staunch believer in a liberal education. Mrs. Smith's name was Caroline Hammersley, a sister of John Hammersley. 1923-1950 Clifford Gordon Early documentation sale to Peter McIntosh. James Smith of Dumphrieshire 1812- came to Puslinch with his brother Alexander in 1832. and bought this farm. He was well educated and informed. m. Janet Patrick Issue: Charles P settled in Bruce Mines. John, Joseph J b, 1842, a carpenter and framer who framed barns; m. Caroline Hammersley, Mrs. Charles Bottom Teeswater; James, a businessman in Rochester, Elizabeth, Adam farmed near Portage MB & Walter also Portage Plains, all born in Puslinch. John McKenzie 1861; Wm McKenzie 1877; 1885 James Smith; Jas Smith there 1885 1906 Joseph Smith of Rear 7 owned these two in 1906-1923; 1950 Pat Deconno 1960 C. from Perthshire in 1831, m. Janet McLeod, took up this lot, cleared and worked
it till his death They had 6 sons,
John, Angus, Peter, Hugh, Malcolm and Alex and 3 daughters of which Mrs. Alex
McKenzie was one. Crown to Donald MacKenzie, July 29, 1859 and James McCaig.
