Prior to becoming Wellington County in 1851, it was part of Wellington District. The County includes the townships of Arthur, Eramosa, Erin, Garafaxa ( East & West ), Guelph, Maryborough, Minto, Peel, Pilkington, Puslinch and West Luther. It is bounded in the north by Grey County, in the east by Dufferin, Halton, and Peel Counties, in the south by Wentworth County, and in the west by Huron, Perth and Waterloo Counties. The County Seat is the City of Guelph.
