THE MacROBBIE FAMILY 

            Margaret Douglas and John MacRobbie were married in Perthshire, Scotland on January 24, 1808.  John MacRobbie died in Scotland.  In about 1833 his four sons emigrated to Canada, followed by their mother. 

MARGARET (DOUGLAS) MACROBBIE 1784-1856

Her four sons were:

1.  John MacRobbie   1808-April 1, 1863

2.  James MacRobbie   1812-October 19, 1861

3.  Andrew MacRobbie   1814-1885

4.  Lodwich MacRobbie   1817-January 19, 1852

There may have been  another son, James, born in 1809, who did not survive past infancy. 

The four sons chose adjacent lots in the Corwhin area of Puslinch Township

John - lot 22, front of concession 10

James - lot 22, rear of concession 10

Andrew - lot 23, rear of concession 10

Lodwich - lot 23, front of concession 10

  1. JOHN MACROBBIE married Margaret Cameron (nee Morrison)

Margaret Morrison (1820-Sept. 1898) was born on the island of Islay in Argyleshire, Scotland. She had been married previously to O. Cameron who died of typhus in 1848.

She had three Cameron children:

                        1.  Catherine Cameron - born 1844, remained single

                        2.  Isabella Cameron  - born 1846, married  Mr. Laing

                        3.  Colin Cameron - born 1848

            In 1849 she married John MacRobbie and they had seven children:

1.       Margaret MacRobbie - born January 27, 1850

2.       Christina (Christie) MacRobbie - born January 15, 1853

3.       John MacRobbie - born 1854

4.       Ann MacRobbie - born 1856, married Peter Clark, son of Donald Clark and Margaret McPherson

5.       Janet MacRobbie - 1856-Aug. 17, 1916, married James Weir, had six children

6.       Grace - born 1858

7.       Jemima - born 1862

  1. JAMES MACROBBIE married Christiana Clark

Christiana  (June 24, 1817-Feb. 14, 1905) was the daughter of John Clark and Mary Grant who emigrated from Badenoch, Scotland to lots 29 and 30, rear of concession 8, in Badenoch, Puslinch Township

James and Christiana were childless.

  1. ANDREW MACROBBIE married Margaret Grey (born1814)

They had nine children:

    1. Margaret MacRobbie - born January 6, 1840 - died in infancy
    2. Margaret MacRobbie  Oct. 14, 1841-Apr. 3, 1909

married William Kerr 1827-June 17, 1908

Seven children:

1.       Margaret Kerr 1864-May 22, 1884, single

2.       Mary Kerr March 1, 1866-Nov. 21, 1889, married Robert Cockburn

1.  Hugh Ernest Cockburn - born March 13, 1888

 married Jessie Henderson and had one daughter:

1.  Mary Elsie Cockburn - born Sept. 2, 1922

                         married Gordon Howlett Dean, has two daughters

                                    After Jessie Cockburn died, Hugh E. married her sister, Bessie.

3.       Phylis Catherine Kerr Sept 19, 1867- Feb. 19, 1885, single

4.       John W. Kerr 1872-1960, married Allison Irvine Henderson 1882-1961

Five children:

1.  Margaret Gray Kerr - born Oct. 14, 1912, single

2.  William James Kerr - born Oct 18, 1914, married Mary Laurie

                        5 children

                  3.  Ernest Andrew Kerr - born Aug. 24, 1917

4.  John Irvine Kerr - born March 22, 1920

5.  Elizabeth Jean (Beth) Kerr - born June 11, 1923

married  George Pentelow, had 3 children

5.  Elizabeth Riddle Kerr Dec 1, 1875-Apr. 25, 1963

married Donald G. Hanning, had six children     

6.  Andrew Kerr 1880-1965, single

7.  Janet Kerr May 24, 1884-1931, married William Simpson

3.  Isabella MacRobbie - born Feb. 2, 1843, married James Stevenson

4.  John MacRobbie April 5, 1844-May 13, 1909

                        married Jane Boyne 1850-Feb. 17, 1926

                        They had eight children:

1.       Caroline MacRobbie - born 1869

2.       Mary Jane MacRobbie Jan. 12, 1870-Aug. 2, 1949

married James Tennant

3.       Andrew MacRobbie - born 1874

4.       Margaret MacRobbie  Oct. 9, 1876-Dec. 11, 1948, single?

5.        John MacRobbie Aug. 1878-Apr. 11, 1879

6.       ? MacRobbie - born 1881

7.       Robert Douglas MacRobbie - born March 18, 1883

8.       Janet MacRobbie Oct. 1893-Jan. 12, 1984

5.  Catharine MacRobbie Feb. 7, 1846-Jul. 22, 1911, single

6.  Gilbert Douglas MacRobbie (Rev) - born Feb. 7, 1846

Catharine and Gilbert were twins.

7.  Andrew MacRobbie -  born June 2, 1848

8.       James MacRobbie Apr. 14, 1850-Dec. 3, 1926, single

9.       Elizabeth Agnes MacRobbie Oct. 14, 1852-Mar. 12, 1931

married John Harbottle May 7, 1851-April 2, 1897

Six children:

1.       John Thomas Harbottle Dec. 9, 1883-March 23, 1885

2.       Alex Harbottle

3.       Thomas Norman Harbottle - born Dec. 7, 1885

4.       James Percival (Percy) Harbottle - born Sept 22, 1887

5.       Margaret Catherine Harbottle - born Dec. 31, 1892

6.       Elizabeth Grace Harbottle - born August 16, 1895

4.  LODWICH MACROBBIE married Janet McPherson (born 1830)

Janet McPherson was a daughter of Peter McPherson and Annie Martin who emigrated from Glenfernsdale, Badenoch, Scotland to lot 28, front of concession 9 in Badenoch, Puslinch Township.
